Ministry—God on the move at Trinity

God is on the move in and through the people of Trinity. God is active in our worship services and Bible studies. He’s doing great things in our school and preschool. He’s going into Starbucks and schools and workplaces. And where God is, He’s making a real difference in people’s lives. It’s a great time to be a part of Trinity Ministries!

God is on the move because God’s people are giving where their hearts are. You are giving of your time, money, and energy. You have experienced the life transforming riches of Jesus’ death and resurrection. And you are sharing it with those around you.

I hope this book will lead you to:

1.    Praise God for how much He is doing in and through the people of Trinity. (Wow! Over fifty ministries!)

2.    Pray for the many people serving that God would work in and through them to serve people for the praise of God.

3.    Look for places where God is calling you to serve. What is He putting on your heart? The Ministries listed provide a wide variety of ways to serve—from shopping at Target for our school…to donating bags and containers for Loaves & Fishes…to donating money…to many hands-on serving opportunities.

4.    Be a mentor to or just invite a friend or child to serve with you. It’s always more fun with a buddy.

5.    Send me an email with updated info, pictures, or other ministries you’re involved in— This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Thank you for taking the time to see what God is doing here at Trinity. This book is a product of my overwhelming amazement of how much ministry God’s people are doing here.

Pastor Steve Willweber

Description of Ministry: As a disciple of Jesus, you are called by God to be a minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the people God has placed in your life—family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, and each person you meet. Every day, you have the opportunity to be a testimony to the greatness of Jesus Christ in your words and actions. With people you already love and care about, you are called by God to help them learn and grow into who they are in Christ.

o    Want to know how to read the Bible for growth and fruitfulness?

o    Want help in growing in your prayer life?

o    Want to learn how to share your relationship with Jesus in your everyday life?

o    Want to discover your passions and SHAPE for ministry? Want to discover where God is calling you to serve in Jesus’ name?

o    Want to grow in your stewardship of God’s financial blessings to you? Want to learn about how to give tithes and offerings for God’s work? Want to discover the blessings about putting God first with your money?

Ways you can serve: Contact one of us if you would like some Life Coaching (by phone, email, or meeting), or just chat with us about ways you can grow as a minister of the Gospel. We take a Christ-centered, Gospel-focused approach to growing in Christ-like maturity. We want you to be everything God enables you to be, whether you’re starting at ground zero or you’ve reached the spiritual heights.

At the completion of this group, you are invited to be formally received into membership. But please note, we care much more about you being connected to God and our family than about “membership.”

Ways you can serve:

Drivers and Chaperones are always needed. The biggest obstacles to coordinating youth events is the need for adult help in organizing, leading, and traveling to events. Prayerfully consider helping us nurture the future of our church.

Description of Ministry: Confirmation is an important step for a young adult as he or she “confirms” or “says yes to” the promise God made to him or her in baptism. We do not have a one-size-fits-all confirmation process. We believe each child and family is different with unique needs and passions. We do have three required seminars that cover the basic teaching of the Small Catechism. But the heart of the process is what each family decides is best for the confirmand—a small group, a home course of instruction, a  life transformation group, etc.

Please fill out the “My Confirmation Plan” form and meet with Pastor Rowe or Willweber to discuss your confirmation process.

Ways you can serve: Contact Pastor Willweber for more info on joining in the confirmation process. Or, if you have a heart for young people, contact me about mentoring a confirmand.

Description of Ministry: I love my LTG. It’s just me and another guy or two meeting for an hour a week. It is a highlight of the week. We each read about four chapters a day of a book of the Bible. We pray for our lost friends. And we work on Christ-like character. And then for our hour a week, we discuss growth in Christ-like character and the book of the Bible we read. It’s hard to stop at an hour.

Ways you can serve: To start a group, all it takes is finding one other person of the same sex who is willing to commit to the simple principles of an LTG. Get a pamphlet from me or talk to me about this great opportunity to grow in Christ.

New Worship Services

Contact Person: Pastor Steve Willweber

Phone: 238-3702

Email: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Description of Ministry: We are constantly looking to start new worship opportunities. We believe that one size does not fit all. And we know that the more worship opportunities we have available, the more people we will reach for Christ. So we’re looking for leaders to start new worship services in as many different locations, at as many different times, and in as many different styles as God may lead us to start.

Ways you can serve: Has God placed on your heart to start a Cowboy Service? Or maybe a small group, in home worship experience? Or perhaps you’d enjoy worshiping in the Fellowship Hall around tables, with drama, dialog, singing, discussion, small group prayer, and taking the Lord’s Supper as part of a full meal? Or how about whole family worship? Or maybe “EPIC” worship—experiential, participatory, image-based, connective worship? Outdoor worship, anyone?

If God has placed this on your heart, you can do it! Trinity will help provide prayer and guidance as you follow God’s lead.

Contact me to let me know you’re interested.

For Confirmation Students: This is a required Small Catechism Seminar for confirmation students—the first of three. Thrivent Financial for Lutherans

Contact Person: Church Office

Phone: 238-3702

Email: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Description of Ministry: Thrivent is a fraternal benefits organization that not only provides Christian financial advice and products but also distributes tens of thousands of dollars each year to our area. Thrivent Coordinators help distribute that money in Paso. Those serving on the County Board help distribute that money to the entire area.

Ways you can serve: Trinity is the largest Lutheran church in the area and yet has not influenced the Chapter in the distribution of the fraternal benefits much. Consider serving on the Chapter Board.

You may also consider contacting our Thrivent Representative about becoming a Thrivent member, making use of the Christian financial advice and products available.

Or you can become a Congregational Coordinator:

Each Lutheran congregation has a congregational coordinator. They administer the resources available to Thrivent Financial members in their congregation through the Care in Congregations® program, encouraging activities that maximize Thrivent Financial member involvement, awareness of Thrivent Financial, and high impact on Lutheran congregations and their related institutions. You need to have access to the Internet and e-mail.

What will the team of congregational coordinators do?

Responsibilities are to provide leadership and encourage participation in activities that take place at the congregation:

  • Ensure at least six Thrivent Financial member households actively participate on a congregational service team to qualify for Care in Congregations® funding.
  • Let the congregation know how the Care in Congregations® money is being used.
  • Provide leadership to Care in Congregations® program volunteer efforts in the congregation.
  • Request funding from the Operations Center for congregational service team activities.
  • Report Care in Congregations® program activity results, and forward necessary information, including receipts, to the chapter leadership board.
  • Assure that Care in Congregations® funding is used as intended.
  • Communicate with chapter leadership board as needed.
  • Order and coordinate distribution of congregational resources (baptismal medallions and confirmation crosses).

How much time will this position require each month?

About four to eight hours a month. There is no set term limit for congregational coordinators.

How will Thrivent Financial for Lutherans support this position?

The congregational service team director, a required elected leader on the chapter leadership board, will train and support congregational coordinators. Along with the chapter leadership board, the congregational service team director will monitor and help fill vacancies to ensure access to Care in Congregations® funding, follow up on activities, and act as liaison between the congregational coordinators and the chapter.

Description of Ministry:

Trinity Lutheran School is a fully accredited Kindergarten through Eighth Grade School. We provide a Christian foundation with a strong academic base. The school is a safe, friendly environment where respect is number one. Students score well on standardized tests and go on to perform well in high school. There are numerous programs, events and extra curricular activities offered throughout the year.

We want every student to leave Trinity Lutheran School with skills in basic communication, critical thinking, reasoning, analysis, and synthesis. We want to ensure that all students learn to the best of their ability. We consider our school community an integral part of the Northern San Luis Obispo County and in it we strive for responsibility, forgiveness, friendliness, and social awareness. The faculty and staff strive to create a sense of both support and structure in the student body. Through our approaches to instruction and discipline, we communicate to all students a sense of their self worth, pride, and success in all endeavors, school related or not. We establish a partnership with parents and open communication between home and school and church.

Ways you can serve:

There are so many ways you can serve and be an integral part of Trinity Lutheran School.

1.     First and foremost, keep the staff, students, parents and families in your prayers.

2.     Support the school by attending one of our many programs, musicals, dramas, sporting events, open houses, game nights, weekly chapel services or other fellowship opportunities. The children have a beautiful way of expressing their love of Jesus Christ with others. “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”

3.     Support our school through our fundraising efforts. The tuition collected does not come close to covering the expense of providing an outstanding private education. We are not privileged to receive government assistance. There is not only the cost of student learning materials, salaries, and overhead, but maintenance and depreciation of facilities. In order to provide the extent of programs, facilities, learning materials and manpower used, it is a necessary part of our school. Further, this helps in keeping the tuition rates more affordable. The larger of these efforts include the annual dinner/auction held every year in May, the Fun Run, and a drawing with five different large ticket items available.

4.     Our school also has specific funding needs that can be directly contributed to by making a check to “Trinity Lutheran School” with a memo for: Scholarship, Accelerated Reader/Library, Playground/Outdoor Education/Sports Program, Technology (computers and software), Capital Outlay, and Educational Materials.

5.     Trinity also accepts donations of some used products. Please check with the school prior to dropping off used items to make sure they can be of use.

6.     The school also has opportunities to serve through our volunteer tutoring program. This is a wonderful opportunity to build a relationship with a student who is struggling in one or more subject areas. You have the experience of seeing them learn and grow first hand. They appreciate the extra help and you have the satisfaction of knowing you’ve made a difference in someone’s life.

7.     Also, if you have any gifts, talents, or time to share, please contact the school office about volunteering. I’m sure we can find a place for you to help.

8.     Trinity has many links to the business community in the Paso Robles area. You can easily support the school through these businesses. See the following pages for the vast array of ways—simply by doing what you already do.

Description of Ministry:

      Our little San Lucas ministry is to the kids who hang out around the school, and it is going well; all thanks and credit go to the Holy Spirit. My kids realize the importance of prayer for these people every day. We ask God to guard and protect and prepare the kids’ hearts for what we talk to them about. Every time we talk about repentance and forgiveness along with other things, such as serving our neighbor. In December, we talked focused on Jesus’ birth. We made “Happy Birthday Jesus” cakes for them to decorate and take home so they can explain the story to family or neighbors and have a party for Jesus.

      They listen to the C.D.’s I made them and they say that these songs play over and over in their heads! Cool! We’ve had the opportunity to do some other pretty cool things with these kids. There are anywhere from 4-12 kids that show up, and they are very special . It’s nothing that we’ve done, it’s all the work of the Holy Spirit and God using us how He wants to. Thank you so much for any prayers regarding our group. ( We call it “Club 10:14”, based on Mark 10:14 “Let the little children come to Me, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.”)

Ways you can serve: Pray for us and the kids we minister to. And consider ways you can reach out to those around you.

Vineyards Growing Veggies

Contact Person: Cindy Newkirk

Phone: 227-0776

Email: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Description of Ministry:

The Vineyards Growing Veggies™ garden was planted at Steinbeck Vineyards & Winery with a sole mission: to help end hunger in their local community and all of San Luis Obispo county. Dozens of loyal volunteers from faith-based groups, high school and university organizations, along with other active community members, harvest thousands of pounds of fresh, locally-grown summer veggies from one fertile acre. The produce goes to nearby food banks and food pantries to distribute to the poor, disabled, and others in need.

A major recipient of the fresh produce has been Loaves and Fishes of Paso Robles. Executive Director Jackie Sebro says, “The Vineyards Growing Veggies™ garden is a fantastic program. It gives a healthy choice of vegetables to our recipients. We can’t always get this volume or produce this fresh from our other generous sources. Quite often canned vegetables are all we have to hand out.” “In addition,” she continued, “with food costs continuing to skyrocket, this prolific, community garden has supplied us with an abundance of fresh, healthy, locally-grown produce that would otherwise be unaffordable or unobtainable for many of our beneficiaries. This garden has helped our organization save money. In these tough economic times, cash donations have fallen a bit short and this is when we need money the most because more people come to us for help. The Vineyards Growing Veggies™ program has allowed us to continue to help those in need. For that we are very blessed and grateful.”

Urban Farming (http://www.urbanfarming.org) is an international 501c3 organization headquartered in Detroit, Michigan, that plants food on unused land and space to give it to those in need. Their mission is to end hunger in our generation. Food gardens are planted on unused land in cities, on rooftops, on walls, in planters, in malls and within landscaping. They also develop Green Science Gardens on school campuses, K-College. The guiding principle of Urban Farming is to form win-win partnerships with local, national and international businesses, government agencies, non-profits as well as community members and leaders, faith-based organizations and youth and senior groups. They facilitate mentoring youth and adult entrepreneurship and teach about agriculture, alternative flues, math, science, life skills and healthy eating.

Put this in your calendar!

Said one: “I learned that God blesses people in different ways. We in America take everything we have for granted, or at least I do, and going down to Mexico really opened my eyes. The people we built houses for and the kids we worked with had close to nothing, but still, they were extremely kind. I’d love to do more mission work.”

* The church staff oversee the entire ministry of the church—worship, outreach, Christian education, small groups, business administration, and many other ministries you see in this book. They are often times directly active in these ministries as well. On Sundays alone, they make sure you have quality music, outstanding overhead presentation, a Christ-centered message, and the announcement bulletin. During the week, they are ministering to your children. They are the friendly face you see in the office. They are visiting the sick and elderly.

Ways you can serve:

Your gift of time will always be considered as more valuable than your gifts of money. Your gift of undesignated money, however, does enable church workers to give of their time to serve the ongoing ministry of Trinity. It also enables us to keep the lights on and the property in good order. Consider meeting with District representative Brian Hyde to discuss your Lifetime Plan for Giving. (Contact the church office.)

Description of Ministry:

Imagine with me for a moment if you would…

ü     What a blessing it would be to fund a full time Hispanic Pastor and church-sponsored church plant where Spanish-speaking souls worship weekly;

ü     The Kingdom impact we could have by sending 100 souls each year on mission trips without having to seek financial support for their journey;

ü     The lives that could be reached by providing scholarships to dozens of families so that their children can attend our school, VBS, and summer camps at little or no cost;

ü     The true joy of providing any member who wishes to attend a Concordia University or Seminary a full-ride college scholarship to do so;

ü     Even new roofing, HVAC units, carpeting, and other refurbishments paid for—free and clear—without having to impact the church operating budget a single cent;

ü     What a blessing it would be to be able to accelerate plans for building and expansion of our facility

By contributing to the Trinity Endowment Fund, you can make these dreams and others a reality for years to come. Do you have a heart for a particular ministry? Your gift to the Endowment can make sure that ministry is funded long after your lifetime.

Ways you can serve:

As a steward of God’s gifts, we encourage you to meet with our District’s Planned Giving Counselor, Brian Hyde, who will help you realize your dreams for your family and ministries through a Lifetime Plan for Giving workshop and personal guidance. Contact a pastor or Brian directly at 209-613-2125 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Consider making a gift to celebrate an anniversary, birthday, graduation, or other special occasion, or even a memorial gift for a departed loved one. A gift of stocks, bond, or real estate is a great gift. Some even have a life insurance policy with the Endowment as a beneficiary.
