Rowes’ Brazil Mission Trip 7/17/09

They took us to another of those beef places for lunch today.

Today we visited a couple of churches that do a lot of ministry with the poor. There are neighborhoods, which are very poor, that are established by stolen land. Stolen land means that no schools, health care or any services are provided to the people who live on the land. But they are all poor people so the church goes in and helps the poor who are caught in the middle---to know that someone cares for them.

This afternoon we went out and visited the project of the church among one of those poor communities--it was interesting to see how that community, with the help of the church, is being transformed into a lower middle class community with a sense of identity--with the church providing education, spiritual guidance, and nurturing a sense of community. We will meet before dinner to ask more questions and learn more.
