1 Greetings IN Christ, 6-3-09

For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, 15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, 16 that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, 19 and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

20 Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

I often use the language, God's passionate pursuit of us for relationship with us, in my NEWK-IT! emails.  You can be sure I am thinking about my relationship with my spouse and your relationship with yours when I use that language.  I don't think about it in a "what happens behind closed doors" sense, but rather in the context of passion to know the person we are in love with.  We know them, but we want to know them more - to give more of ourselves and to lovingly receive their giving.

The breakdown between lovers isn't dissimilar to the breakdown in the relationship with God.  We've been there, done that.  The extraordinary becomes the ordinary; passion becomes riddled with issues and guilt over doing or not doing.  We begin thinking God pursues us because he wants something from us, just like we may begin believing about our lover - he/she wants to make love because of selfish needs/wants.  Perhaps, the one pursuing wants to make love because they want something for us or perhaps we are the one pursuing our lover because we want something for the relationship as opposed to something from the other.

God is an extraordinary lover who passionately pursues for relationship.  The vulnerability lovers face is most lovingly met by trust, an ever growing trust because it is rooted and grounded in love. We know our lover in the deepest sense of the word and we want to know them more.  The vulnerability of knowing God intimately is most lovingly met by trust in the One who is trustworthy.  This love and passion is beyond comprehension, beyond head knowledge to heart, soul and spirit intimacy with the creator of the world - the creator of our whole being.

If you struggle to have a passionate relationship with your lover, reach out to a trusted confidant who has a solid relationship with their spouse and with their God.  If you have a passionate relationship with your lover, reach out to those around you who are hurting - they are plentiful and hungry for leadership and guidance.  God passionately pursues us, because he wants us to be in a healthy relationship with him and with those around us, especially our lover, and he wants to reach others through his work in us.  We have a much happier face if we passionately love our lover and love our God; we have a much happier face if we allow our lover to passionately love us and our God to passionately love us.

Blessings IN Christ, Cindy
