Abe is 7, full of life and energy, expression and passion, and a lot of questions. Here is another series of Abe’s questions: “I always wonder, where did the first things come from? I mean, how did the first things get here?” He paused then dove back in, “Where did the first people come from? I mean, how did the first people get here?” I said, “Abe, I believe what the Bible says. God said, ‘let there be light.’ And there was light. God made everything by his word, the water and the sky, all the animals and birds and fish. People were a different, God took dirt and shaped it into a man and he breathed life into him. Adam was the first man ever, and he was created by God.” “Oh” Abe replied, deep in thought waltzing around the tree, formulating the next series of questions.

The creation account in Genesis is only part of Scripture’s revelation about creation. John believed and spoke: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men.” John 1:1-3

The Psalmist believed and declared: “Let them praise the name of the LORD! For he commanded and they were created. 6And he established them forever and ever; he gave a decree, and it shall not pass away.” Psalm 148:5-6

Isaiah believed and spoke: “Thus says God, the LORD, who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread out the earth and what comes from it, who gives breath to the people on it and spirit to those who walk in it: 6’I am the LORD; I have called you in righteousness; I will take you by the hand and keep you; I will give you as a covenant for the people, a light for the nations, 7 to open the eyes that are blind, to bring out the prisoners from the dungeon, from the prison those who sit in darkness.’” Isaiah 42:5-7

The author of Hebrews believed and declared, “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. 2For by it the people of old received their commendation. 3By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.” Hebrews 11:2-3

The Word spoke creation into being; the Word speaks Life into our lives. The world was created by the Word; the world is sustained by the Word. Faith is created by the Word; faith is sustained by the Word. The breath of the living God has breathed on our hearts and lives, bringing to life that which he created in his wisdom to spend eternity with him. The breath of the living God fills our veins with the oxygen of life, cleansing our blood with his very life and blood, bringing renewal and hope and peace. His life is our life; his breath is our breath.

His life and breath calls our heart, soul and mind to ask life questions like Abe is so willing to fire. May God grant us courage to ask and seek. May God grant us boldness to speak his creation hope into this world. May his peace guard our hearts and souls. Blessings IN Christ, Cindy
