“Hindsight is 20-20 Vision” implies that when we were in the middle of a life circumstance we couldn’t see as clearly as we can now that we have passed through the event.  Our focus becomes sharper; our vision gets clearer. We gain experience as we navigate through this world so we don’t make the same mistakes we made previously - hopefully. If we work hard to keep our goals and vision in front of us, perhaps on good days, stay focused on not making the same mistakes. On the other hand, when we go into auto pilot we fall back into old habits of thinking and doing.

Change comes slowly and is very challenging because it requires a new way of thinking and doing which requires forward vision, not just perfect hindsight. Change requires asking heart and soul questions with a vision for wholeness and healing in mind. Heart and soul questions require vision and clarity, a desire for freedom from past guilt and mistakes, freedom from doing the same things over and over, and freedom to live without the weight and worry falling back into old patterns and habits.

Heart and soul questions might include: “what do I want?” and “why do I go about getting some of what I want in unhealthy ways?” and “what lies have I convinced myself to believe?” and “why do I always take the quick, easy path?” There are many more journey questions: “Do we want average vision or the perfect vision Jesus has for us?” and “what do we want Jesus to do for us?” and “is living life fully in Christ only about not repeating past mistakes?”

Here is Mark’s account of Jesus healing the blind man: And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!" 48And many rebuked him, telling him to be silent. But he cried out all the more, "Son of David, have mercy on me!" 49And Jesus stopped and said, "Call him." And they called the blind man, saying to him, "Take heart. Get up; he is calling you." 50And throwing off his cloak, he sprang up and came to Jesus. 51And Jesus said to him, "What do you want me to do for you?" And the blind man said to him, "Rabbi, let me recover my sight." 52And Jesus said to him, "Go your way; your faith has made you well." And immediately he recovered his sight and followed him on the way. Mark 10:47-52

Living life IN Christ is about putting off the old and putting on the new – daily. Living life IN Christ means trusting that his life is lived in us and ours in him. Living life IN Christ is about perfect vision, not just about the past but about our future. Living life IN Christ is not average vision, but perfect vision.

May God grant us courage to see his vision for us and live in his vision for us. May God grant us boldness to ask him confidently to restore our vision. May the peace of God which passes our understanding guard our hearts in him. Blessings IN Christ, Cindy
