If you are reading this NEWK-IT!, we have something very basic in common – we are breathing. We are alive. We and all other human beings have all other basics aspects of human life in common as well. We are alive. If you are reading this NEWK-IT! we have something very complex in common – we know in our soul that there is so much more to life than breathing, eating & drinking, peeing & pooping, working & resting – all part of God’s intricate, complex creation. We are alive and we want more. There must be more.

John declares the big picture and calls us to more life and aliveness: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1:1-5

All of our basic, created needs reflect our greater need. We breathe; He breathed life into Adam and his breath is the Spirit. We eat; He is Bread from Heaven. We drink; He is Living Water. Our bodies cleanse us from the inside out; He cleanses from the inside. We work to sustain life; He worked and works to create life. We rest; He is Rest.

God created light; He created us with a need for light. Animals see in the dark. Humans need light. John says, “in him was life and the life was the light of men.” This is more! True life, not the life where we chase around for more and more and more, is found in Christ our life and light. The Life created everything in the beginning. The Life sustains life, the Life lives in us and we live in him for eternity.

A better house or better spouse or perfect kids or perfect work or perfect rest or perfect food or perfect smart water or perfect wine won’t bring more. More is Jesus. In Jesus our house, our spouse, our kids, our work, our rest, our food and our wine take on a new and different context. We are called to live as fully human in our callings, which might mean making changes – a lot of them, to live in the light and life. He calls us to wake up and allow his light to shine on all places of life. He calls us into his wisdom, his truth, his light and his life. More is Jesus.

In Christ is life and the life is the light. He created us as complex individuals with basic needs. He also created us with a need for him. We rest when we rest in him; we breathe when we breathe in him; we work when we work in him. He is the more we are looking for. He is life and light.

May God grant us courage to wake up to our need for more in Christ. May God grant us courage to reach out to people who shine Christ’s life and light in this world. May God grant us boldness to speak hope into the lives of the individuals God has placed around us who are searching for more. May his peace which passes our understanding guard our heart and soul, mind and spirit. Blessings IN Christ, Cindy
