Man-made light comes from an energy source man invented. Light bulbs burn out; summer heat coupled with high energy usage bringing state mandated “rolling brown outs;” storms, earthquakes and other natural disasters knock out power lines. The inventions of man take the created and redirect its energy to “create” light. We have beautiful light to be thankful for!

God, through the Word (Christ Jesus), created life and light out of nothing. John declares: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1:1-5

Modern conveniences, like turning on a light switch and lights coming on, dull our senses to the Word of God in the Gospel of John.  In the beginning the Word spoke and there was light; the Word became flesh and he was life and light; the Word speaks and there is life and light. This powerful act of creation continues as the Word enlightens us. This powerful act of creation continues as we speak the Word.

The light that shines in the darkness cannot be overcome by darkness. The darkness of the messes around us, the messes we’ve created and the messes in us cannot win. We work to keep the darkness hidden from the light; we spend our “energy” covering up the darkness or compensating for it; we work to fix the darkness before we let the light of Christ in. We are called to allow the Word to do just the opposite. We are called to welcome the light into the darkness, because the darkness is eradicated in the light.

We view the energy and the light of Christ like we view electricity – someday it will run out.  We are called to view the light and life of Christ as he declares it to be – forever, from the beginning and the Alpha and the Omega. We view our light and energy and life as limited or finite – it is not! Christ, the light who was with God from the beginning lives in us and we live in him. He is our renewable energy source; He is our life and light.

When we run out of energy or light or life, we are called to draw on his energy, light and life. More than that, before we get to crisis mode, we are called to learn to live in his energy, light and life. We are called to learn that his light and life works in us and through us. It is not our light, our energy, our work or our life we trust or live in, it is his. We have Beautiful Light to be thankful for.

May God grant us courage to live freely in him. May God grant us boldness to be Christ’s light, life and energy in this world. May his peace guard our hearts and lives. Blessings IN Christ, Cindy
