He has shown his people the power of his works, in giving them the inheritance of the nations. 7The works of his hands are faithful and just; all his precepts are trustworthy; 8they are established forever and ever, to be performed with faithfulness and uprightness. 9He sent redemption to his people; he has commanded his covenant forever. Holy and awesome is his name! 10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all those who practice it have a good understanding. His praise endures forever! Psalm 111:6-10

What are our minds drawn to when we think of the works of God? The Psalmist was drawn to remember the food God provided in the desert as God’s people roamed for 40 years and the inheritance God gave them in the Promise Land. God brought Noah through the water, Abraham a child, David a kingship - the stories go on and on. These works of God foreshadowed or pointed ahead to the work and word of God, the Christ.

What are our minds drawn to when we think of the power of the works of God? Do we think of earthquakes, floods, destruction or taking something valuable away by the awesome power of God? God certainly could and someday will take away, but it will be for the purpose of giving and completing his precepts and his promises.  The Psalmist calls our minds to shift our thinking: “He has shown his people the power of his works, in giving.”

God so loved the world that he gave. John 3:16 God gave everything in the life of his son! God redeemed unholy man in the life of his son, cleansed hearts, made lives holy, restored creation to himself through the flesh of his son. God gave his son as the sacrifice for sin; God gave wholeness and healing and life though the life of his son as he walked this earth fulfilling all righteousness and restoring brokenness.

God gives. The power of the work of our giving God calls us, gathers us, delights in us, frees us, holds us, cherishes us, pursues us, renews us, restores us, emboldens us, stirs us, etc. The power of the work of God gives us life and eternal life, our inheritance as sons and daughters. The power of the work of God in the word, Christ Jesus, speaks directly to our heart, soul, spirit, body and mind to bring freedom in this life from the weight of sin and from our misunderstanding of the work of God. The work of God crushes Satan’s lies.

How well do I receive? Do I place the works of God in a great big, “God is an angry God” box? Do I place a tight lock around my heart and only give God partial access when or if I’m ready? Do I keep my faith in my brain? Do I “fear” God with awe and trust as a giver or do I “fear” God as a taker? Am I paralyzed in anger or hatred because of situations from the past over which I have no control? Do I cling tightly for control out of fear of losing control if I let God give me freedom from IT!? Am I an unhealthy taker who can only view God as a taker?

God is a giver. The power of the work of God gives us freedom from _________, for freedom in his life. He calls us to rest in his perfect life, in his giving. “Behold, I long for your precepts; in your righteousness give me life!” Psalm 119:40 May God grant us courage to see the power of the work and word of God in our lives. May God grant us boldness to declare his work and word to a world dying to hear it. May God’s peace be with us. Blessings IN Christ, Cindy
